We are really excited that our upcoming album, Of Hard Times & Harmony, includes not just English-language songs of social struggle, but also several pieces from other cultures, including this song. Noù Carbons is in the Occitan language from the south of France. It is a recently composed piece by Laurent Cavalié, in the traditional style of a counting song. He wrote it to protest a new prison being built in Toulouse, and to read more about the song, go to this post from last year: Patreon.com/posts/34299800
This footage comes from a video shoot at the Latchis Theatre in Brattleboro VT last summer. For those of you who aren’t local, the Latchis is a beautiful historic theater in downtown Brattleboro that primarily operates as a movie theater, but also has a 750-seat mainstage space that (in non-COVID times) hosts live performances of music, circus, and more.
Who wouldn’t love performing in a space like this?!

During the pandemic, they started a program renting out their theaters for private movie showings to small groups, and generously agreed to let us use it for a video shoot. You’ve already seen one video from our Latchis Sessions (Stephen Spitzer’s piece St. Gaudens, Patreon.com/posts/41496959) and there are more to come!
Doing livestream concerts has helped us get accustomed to not hearing applause after a song, but singing to a giant empty theater was its own unique experience. It really emphasized how much sound 750 bodies typically absorb! We are very grateful to Jon Potter and the whole team at the Latchis for helping facilitate a COVID-safe experience, and we’re excited to continue sharing with you the great video we got from this shoot!
