A lot of people assume that since we are all singers, and spend so much time traveling, living, or otherwise spending time together, we must sing in all our spare time. We don’t want to burst anyones illusions, but most of the time it isn’t true. We love singing together, but between rehearsal and concerts, we usually need the vocal rest, and the rest of life and it’s obligations are more pressing.
Sometimes, however, we do find ourselves passing the time in song, and last night was one of those moments. We had gathered for a weekend retreat at Lynn and Wills place in Western MA, and we’re in the middle of making dinner when their housemate Aiden came in and started asking for our favorite rounds to sing with his middle school chorus. Mostly we just sang him single lines to record for reference, but the September Moon Round by Chandler Yorkhall has held a special place in our hearts for a long time, and we all got sucked in by the beautiful tune. I pulled out my phone a little way in and was able to capture a tiny sliver of life, in the kitchen, in music, in our life off-stage.

Full moon outside my window this warm September night
Pulls me into wakefulness far too early.
I’d rather be sleeping, the day’s already too long for me.
I’ll just wait for dawn.
