So this is a bit of a silly and strange post, but I wanted to let you all know about an excitement in our lives these days. As many of you know, our Stabat Mater video from Mont-Saint-Michel went viral on TikTok in early 2021, with nearly 3 million folks watching it! This week we’ve had a different kind of brush with fame and wanted to let you all know!
It started when we saw a video going around of Stephen Colbert interviewing Michael Bublé on his show. They were talking about how Bublé had worked on boats at some point, and Colbert basically says, “Michael, you are a famous Canadian singer and you worked at sea, you must know the song Barrett’s Privateers!” For those of you who aren’t familiar with Stan Rogers’ famous song detailing the ill-fated (fictional) voyage of Canadian Privateers during the American Revolution, you aren’t alone: Bublé clearly had no idea! He was very game though, and bumbled his way through with the teleprompter, hitting some notes and, uh, not hitting others!
We were delighted that this song had made an appearance on the show. After coming back from our shows in NYC and Saratoga Springs, we stayed the night at Lynn and Will’s place in Western MA. The next morning we decided to record an accompanying harmony to the song, and in our typical Windborne manner it got more and more complicated, ending up with choreography and editing and costumes and flags! The video took off (though not as wildly as the Corsican piece last year!) and quickly reached around 100k views. A lot of folks had been tagging Colbert and Bublé, and one of the unique things about TikTok is that many times it’s the actual people behind the account, rather than a team or manager. This Friday the inconceivable happened: Michael Bublé found the video! At first I just noticed that he had “liked” it, but then he commented a string of hearts, and finally asked if he could share
I of course said yes, mind kinda blown. No further news yet, but of course we will keep you in the loop.
