Rehearsal of The Good Old Way

This coming weekend, we are taking part in a concert put on by the Young Tradition Vermont Festival to honor the legacy of three giants in the folk world who have died in the past six months: Larry Gordon, Tony Barrand, and Norma Waterson. All three of these people had an immeasurable impact on our work as Windborne, and on us as individuals. We are hosting this tribute concert, which will include songs and stories from us as well as other friends and colleagues whose lives were touched by Larry, Norma, and Tony. We decided to work up a version of The Good Old Way–a Waterson family classic–to sing for Norma, and we wanted to share that with you here. The concert is 3pm ET on Sat, May 8 in Burlington VT (in person tickets here), and you can also watch online with livestream tickets here (the livestream tickets give you access to all the festival events from May 2-8!).

We specifically wanted to share the video of our rehearsal, because our staging made us laugh: rather that stand in our normal tight arc around the mic, we had to arrange ourselves very carefully in the room in order to have a reasonable vocal balance on the recording… in particular, we needed to set Will about six feet behind everyone else, because this song is just in his sweet spot for wailing away at top volume! 🙂

Roe v Wade Leak

We also wanted to acknowledge the shocking leak from the Supreme Court indicating that they are on the brink of overturning Roe v. Wade. We stand firmly on the side of a person’s right to choose, and we urge you to call your senators and representatives to express that as well. If you feel moved to donate, now is the time! Organizations like Planned Parenthood and the Center for Reproductive Rights do exceptional work in this field.
