Thanks to all of you who watched our We’re-Done-Recording Celebratory Livestream Concert on Sept 21! It was delightful as always to see so many familiar names pop up in the comments, and we’re particularly grateful to those of you who helped us troubleshoot our Facebook audio issues. 🙂  We are taking the concert down from public view, but it’s here for you to watch from now until forever!Â
About those audio issues… sometimes technology just gets the better of you, right? For those of you who missed it, here’s what happened:Â
This show was our first attempt at livestreaming on YouTube and Facebook at the same time, and in an attempt to have good audio for both platforms, we had two microphones set up–our usual gal, Delphina, was feeding to YouTube because she can run through a phone (fancy!), and we had a different mic connect to our Facebook feed. Somehow we overlooked doing a sound check with the new mic (it’s been a long week in the recording studio, and our brains were kinda mushy…) but what could go wrong? Plug in microphone, set up livestream feed, sing songs–we’ve done this enough times now that we feel pretty confident in our livestream abilities.Â
Not long after we started, we saw a comment on Facebook saying, “You sound like chipmunks… is that just me or what?” At first, we figured that was probably someone’s individual computer acting up, and they just needed to refresh the page. But as began singing, more and more people chimed in about our pitch being modulated and squeaky. After the first song, Will figured out that our mic was to blame, and we did the rest of the concert through the computer’s webcam–not ideal sound quality, but better than the alternative!Â
After we finished, we replayed the Facebook video to find out what it sounded like, and almost died laughing!! We hope those of you watching live found it as funny as we did, and for those of you who missed it, make sure you’re sitting down. Then go to this video and enjoy these 9 minutes of us being blissfully unaware of just how ridiculous we sounded: https://vimeo.com/461119162/8b040b31d8 Â (don’t miss the singing, which starts at 2:26!)
