We’re really excited to share a little sample how we arrange our songs with our patreon supporters!
Our process is very collaborative and experimental. Once we settle on who is going to sing the melody, we do a lot of improvisation in order to come up with the basic harmonies we like. Once we have a solid version of the harmonies, we go through the whole song and decide how we’re going to vary those harmonies in order to bring out certain lines or verses and create a narrative arc for the whole song.
Usually throughout all this, we record most everything we sing on one of our phones so we can listen back and remember what we sang. And…sometimes we get a little bit punchy in the process, and that gets recorded too.
So here’s a recording of us coming up with the ending of our arrangement for The Terror Time. We spent a lot of time on this ending, trying out at least 11 versions of the last line with different parts tweaked to one degree or another.
