Song on the Times (Pre-) Released

Song On The Times pre-release downloads have just been sent out to our over 2,500 Indiegogo backers! If you are a backer and didn’t get an email, check your spam folder! Otherwise get in touch and we’ll make sure to help you out!
When we first dreamed up SONG ON THE TIMES, a songbook and album of social action songs from the past 400 years, we had just over 1,400 followers on Facebook, a mailing list of a few hundred people who have seen us in concert over the years, and a modest goal of raising $5,000 to fund a project that included recording 7 songs and printing 500 copies of the accompanying songbook. We planned to hand-sew the bindings ourselves, thinking that we would pre-sell (at most) 300 books via our crowd-funding campaign. Encouraged by a generous grant from the Passim Iguana Music Fund, we launched our IndieGoGo campaign in early January and were shocked when we met our original goal in the first few days.
Then, we traveled to New York City for a gig at the People’s Voice Cafe and shot a quick video in front of Trump Tower, singing the final verse of one of our new arrangements, Song of the Lower Classes.

We are so low but soon we know that the low folk will arise,

And the tyrants in their towers of gold shall hear the people’s cries!
No more shall they hold us in thrall, their lies we will not heed.
But every heart shall hear the call and the people will be free!

Between Facebook and YouTube, this video has been viewed over a million times! We could never have imagined the response we’d receive as this video went viral, and our campaign grew from stretch goal to stretch goal and so far beyond! In the end, we raised $77,000 from over 2,500 backers from all 50 states and 20 countries, which allowed us to greatly expand the scope of the project. The songbook and album that will arrive in your mailbox later this summer has 11 songs (4 more than we originally budgeted for!), a beautiful professional binding, high quality paper, stunning artwork, and so much love and passion.

Perhaps even more profoundly, the outpouring of support that we received for SONG ON THE TIMES proves to us that there is an intense and widespread need for these songs of social struggle in troubled times like the present. And so, we are dedicating much of the next year to bringing SONG ON THE TIMES to as many people as possible. Those of you who are long-time Windborne fans know that traditionally, our tours are short and necessarily scheduled around the commitments we have in our “other” lives. This coming year, we are re-focusing our energies on Windborne and will be spending a lot more time on the road, giving concerts, workshops, and touring in an effort to spread the message of solidarity through music. If you are interested in bringing us to your community, please send us an email! We would love to visit you!

We would love for you to join us for the SONG ON THE TIMES CD Release at Club Passim: 8/17/17
Celebrate with us on Aug 17, 2017 at Club Passim in Cambridge, MA! In addition to being one of Windborne’s favorite venues, Club Passim was an obvious choice for our CD release concert because of the generous grant we received from the Passim Iguana Music Fund, which got SONG ON THE TIMES off the ground and reinforced our belief that this was the right time to be singing these songs.Thank you again for your support!
In solidarity,
Lauren, Lynn, Will, and Jeremy
